Courtney Knapp, Ph.D., AICP, is an Associate Professor of Urban and Community Planning at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She is a participatory action researcher and her interests include urban and industrial history, placemaking, decarbonization and clean energy, regenerative economic development, and decarceration planning. She has professional experience in economic development, housing, public space, and climate resiliency planning in Boston, Lowell, Los Angeles, Chattanooga, and New York City.

Courtney is currently working with United Puerto Ricans of Sunset Park (UPROSE) to update and implement the Green Resilient Industrial District (GRID) Plan for Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Her first book, Constructing the Dynamo of Dixie: Race, Urban Planning, and Cosmopolitanism in Chattanooga, Tennessee (UNC Press, 2018) was awarded the 2019 Paul Davidoff award by the Associated Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP). Courtney is the founder and principal of Integrated Urban Equity Solutions, a consulting firm specializing in housing justice, economic development planning, and community engagement. Her background and experience make her uniquely qualified to serve on the Planning Commission.

She holds B.A.s in Philosophy and Political Science and a M.A. in Gender & Cultural Studies from Simmons College, a M.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University, and a Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University.

Courtney and her family have made Brookfield their home since 2020.
